1. Choose a spot on your property that receives at least 6 hours of sun per day.
2. Prepare your soil by clearing the area of all existing growth.
3. Mix the Wildflower seeds with sand for better visibility.
4. After spreading the seed, we recommend compressing the seed into the soil.
5. After planting, give the area a good water.

Gladiolus acidanthera is beautiful South African wild flower. This Gladiola blooms in mid-summer with graceful spikes of flowers. They have a strong, sweet fragrance and make wonderful bouquets.
Summer Blooming Bulbs, including popular varieties such as gladiolus and dahlias, are planted in the spring and bloom in the summer. Most of these bulbs are tropical and require warm weather to be planted. There must not be any danger of frost and your ground temperature must have reached 55 degrees Fahrenheit before planting. Many
of our summer blooming bulbs can be planted as perennials in zones 9-10 (zone 8 if mulched), but should be treated as annuals in cooler climates. You can lift them and store them in the fall, or bring patio pots inside before frost. See page 15 of our Planting Guide for a bulb depth planting illustration.
Growing Gladiolus: After spring frosts are over, plant the gladiolus corms (bulbs) in your flower bed wherever you want brilliant color in mid-summer. Gladiolus take very little space in the garden and can easily be planted between other plants. After planting, keep the bulbs watered regularly. Soon you’ll have bright sword-like foliage and brilliant blooms. Gladiolus corms are inexpensive, and provide excellent color for the cost. As frost threatens, you can just forget them, and replace them with new bulbs next growing season, or dig up the corms and store them in a cool try place until the following spring.

Comments about High Country Gardens Peacock Orchid (Gladiolus acindanthera) Bulbs:
These come to shine when many other flowers have gone past. I love the graceful, clean white in late summer, but they still have that bit of pizazz in their center.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Master Gardener
Planted the bulbs in 2 large pots and set them at the front door (southern exposure). The foliage was lovely enough but when they started to bloom -- was totally blown away by the huge beautiful blossoms. And they kept blooming and blooming and blooming. So glad to have these gorgeous plants.

Graceful, Scented Beauty!
By Waterfowl Farm
from Careywood, ID
I pot up these lovely species gladiolas and place them around the deck where we can sit near them and enjoy their lovely scent. They are graceful and continue to bloom until a frost stops the show.

Grows in Zone 6
By Belle Star
from Jackson, Missouri
I purchased this bulb many years ago as a new gardener. My HARDINESS ZONE IS 6b. I placed the bulbs on the south side of my home in 8 hours of summer sunshine. These bulbs bloomed prolifically for many years. I did nothing special to the bulbs--no extra mulch in winter etc. I think they're pretty tough plants.I am going to plant some again this year and plan to put them with Knautia macedonica and hope they bloom at the same time.

A lovely plan
The bulbs had a 90% germination rate. The plants with partial shade did much better than those in the all day hot sun. The grasshoppers really chewed them up. Let's hop they overwinter and come back next year.

lovely addition to the garden
from Ft Collins, CO
Gorgeous blossoms that bloom in nice intervals. Looks very attractive in a border.
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
