Daylily ‘Frans Hals’ (Hemerocallis ‘Frans Hals’) heralds the mid-summer garden with brilliant pinwheels of color. Sure to make you smile, its bi-colored blooms of cinnamon punctuated with lemon create a color riot all on its own. Easy care, drought tolerant, and a prolific bloomer, ‘Frans Hals’ is one of our most popular daylilies.
To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low
temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.
If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will
survive the winter temperatures in your area.
If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack
of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
Daylily ‘Frans Hals’ (Hemerocallis ‘Frans Hals’) is a low-care, water-thrifty daylily whose bright yellow and rust bi-colored flowers offer a brilliant display in the mid-summer garden. At 24-29" tall, with over 50 blooms once established, the flowers wave above its lush green foliage. Plant in a location with full sun to light afternoon shade, and compost-enriched, well-drained garden soil. The crown of the plant should be one inch below soil level. Daylily flowers bloom for just one day, hence their name, making each flower special. Plant in sweeps for a dramatic, eye-catching display of color that will last over a month. Trim back spent flower stems as they finish, and trim yellowing foliage as needed. 22-28" tall x 18-24" wide.
