Nashville Calla Lily

Calla Lily ‘Nashville’ (Zantedeschia ‘Nashville’) is an elegant bi-colored flower; its sculptural petals have creamy-yellow centers that blend with violet-magenta, as if swept by the stroke of a brush. At 10-12 inches tall, they make great container plants and are an excellent choice as a border for perennial plants. Calla Lily ‘Nashville’ makes a great addition to a habitat friendly garden; butterflies and hummingbirds love them too! Hardy in zones 8-11, they can be grown in cooler zones as annuals.

USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

  • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
  • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).

Details

Calla Lily ‘Nashville’ (Zantedeschia ‘Nashville’) is like a piece of modern art. The sculptural grace of this spectacular calla lily is a garden knockout. Its creamy yellow bloom unfurls to a soft purple edge, giving this flower a painterly quality. In the garden, used as a focal point along a perennial bed, or in a container, their architectural quality makes a strong statement.

At 10-12 inches tall Calla Lily ‘Nashville’ is a bit shorter than other varieties making it a versatile easy-to-use flower. Simple to grow, plant bulbs at a 2 inch depth and in just over two months, you’ll have flowers. A great cut flower, calla lilies like well-drained, moist soil and full sun to bright shade. Hardy in zones 8-11, they can be grown in cooler zones as annuals.

Planting Guides

Summer Blooming Bulbs, including popular varieties such as gladiolus and dahlias, are planted in the spring and bloom in the summer. Most of these bulbs are tropical and require warm weather to be planted. There must not be any danger of frost and your ground temperature must have reached 55 degrees Fahrenheit before planting. Many of our summer blooming bulbs can be planted as perennials in zones 9-10 (zone 8 if mulched) but should be treated as annuals in cooler climates. You can lift them and store them in the fall, or bring patio pots inside before frost. See page 15 of our Planting Guide for a bulb depth planting illustration.

Growing Calla Lilies:

These tender bulbs can be planted in pots or in the ground. Calla Lily bulbs can be planted as perennials in zones 9-10 (zone 8 if mulched) but should be treated as annuals in cooler climates. You can lift them and store them in the fall, or bring patio pots inside before frost. Calla Lily bulbs quickly create a sizable plant, often growing to 36" high.
