Quick Cover Collection
Groundcovers are invaluable for helping knit the perennial garden together. By planting vigorous growers like the trio in this collection, you can quickly fill in empty spaces between taller growing perennials or shrubs.
Quick Cover Collection includes 3 each of three different species.
Cerastium tomentosum (Snow-in-Summer) – white flowers.
Veronica pectinata (Wooly Speedwell) – blue, white-eyed flowers.
Stachys byzantine Silver Carpet (Silver Carpet Lamb’s Ear) – silver foliage.
For sunny locations:
Cerastium (Snow-in-Summer), with its beautiful silver foliage and profusion of late spring white flowers, is recommended for the xeric garden to fill in between taller growing sages (Salvia), hummingbird mint (Agastache), tickseed (Coreopsis) and many other genera.
Veronica pectinate (Blue Woolly Speedwell) is a flat-growing evergreen groundcover that is an excellent choice to fill in between pavers or flagstone, to edge paths or fill-in between yellow or pink flowered sun-loving perennials. It thrives in well-drained soil and blooms in mid-spring with cheerful blue, white-eyed flowers.
For sun, part shade:
Stachys byzantine Silver Carpet (Silver Carpet Lamb’s Ear) is incredibly versatile in the garden and thrives in problem areas with dry shade and poor soils. This non-flowering perennial is best used to contrast with blue and green-leaved plants. It thrives in the xeric garden.
Rock Garden Groundcover Collection
The Rock Garden Groundcover Collection provides an interesting assortment of low-spreading perennials for rock gardens or drier xeric gardens. All three are recommended for sunny locations with well drained soil (no heavy clay).
Rock Garden Groundcover Collection includes 3 each of three different species:
- Paronychia kepela ssp. serpyllifolia (Silver Nailwort) – tiny white flowers and seed heads
- Cotula Tiffindell Gold (Creeping Gold Buttons) – golden, button-like flowers.
- Delosperma Fire Spinner® (Cold Hardy Iceplant) – orange flowers with magenta centers.
Paronychia kepela ssp. serpyllifolia (Silver Nailwort) This plant is recommended for locations that are too hot and dry for creeping thyme and is long-lived when happy. Cotula Tiffindell Gold (Creeping Gold Buttons) This low-care groundcover has soft, one-inch high emerald green foliage and an impressive display of golden button-like flowers that illuminate the garden beginning in late spring. Deadheading extends the bloom season through the summer.
Delosperma Fire Spinner® is a garden show-off with its spring display of uniquely colored magenta and orange flowers. It’s an evergreen succulent that thrives in well-drained, infertile soils and full sun.
