Comments about High Country Gardens Caryopteris clandonensis Dark Knight:

In response to some of the other reviews: HCG plants may be a little small when they arrive, but given just a little compost and water until they're established, they will double even triple in size. We planted a large flower garden in southern Colorado using HCG plants (and some others from other sources) and were amazed at how much the HCG plants grew in just the first year. Blue Mist Spirea Dark Knight was one of those plants. We had 3-4 foot wide shrubs by the end of the second summer. All we added to the dirt was some compost. It's a beautiful plant.

Comments about High Country Gardens Caryopteris clandonensis Dark Knight:

I had several of the blue mist plants when gardening in the Pacific Northwest. Most plants grow so well there that I took this plant for granted. Now I am gardening in Northern New Mexico, and most plants do not survive well. What does fairly well usually gets eaten by the rabbits, even rabbit resistant plants. I am impressed with how well these plants do--they help carry the garden through the heat of the summer and well into autumn.
I will always have this plant in my yard.

Comments about High Country Gardens Caryopteris clandonensis Dark Knight:

Arrived - 1 dead, and one grew for 2 weeks and then died. But I was most dismayed when they arrived and they were the tiniest shrubs known to man. I don't know if they will grow to their full maturity before I die (I'm guessing 20 years)

Just purchased 3 of these plants. NO WAY I would have ever spent the money on them if I realized the plants would be 2" tall. I am so very disappointed.

              USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

              • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
              • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
