Details

28-32" tall x 24" wide (seed propagated). This rarely available variety brings a unique color to the late spring garden with its large black eyed, light coral-pink flowers. A strong, long lived plant, 'Coral Reef' is more of a coral-pink color than salmon-pink 'Princess Louise'. But, hey, grow them both. 'Coral Reef' is a great choice for those gardeners who appreciate unusually colored poppies.

Comments about High Country Gardens Papaver orientale Coral Reef:

I used it in a small area with a dark colored Dianthus, small conifers, and light colored ground cover.
It seems slow to get started, but I have great hopes that it will 'creep' and 'leap' this coming year.

Comments about High Country Gardens Papaver orientale Coral Reef:

I ordered this one late in the season and will need to wait until spring to see the bloom. The seedling arrived on time and in good condition. So far it has weathered dry, hot conditions with carefully planned afternoon shade.

Comments about High Country Gardens Papaver orientale Coral Reef:

This went right into a narrow border near the sidewalk. It sits prettily tucked next to my neighbor's fence. We are looking forward to its full flowering in the Spring.

          Q & A

          USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

          • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
          • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
