Hybrid Tomatoes are the products of crossing two distinct parental lines to increase disease resistance and produce more fruit. Thus seeds cannot be saved. Tomatoes should be planted outside after the last average frost date. You can plant up to 6 weeks earlier if you use Kozy Coats Plant Protectors. Tomatoes prefer well drained soil that is high in organic matter. Tomatoes need at least 1 inch of water a week. Soak to depth of 6 to 10 inches when watering. They need at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Indeterminate tomatoes grow and fruit throughout the summer. Their flowers bloom along the vines, not on the ends. Support and pruning of the plants may be required. Determinate plants are smaller growers that set all of their fruit over the course of a few weeks and are the best for containers.
