An imposing native plant hybrid, Twilight Prairie Blues will also stand out with its late spring display of uniquely colored deep violet-purple (almost copper colored) flowers highlighted by a lemon-yellow keel. Hybridized by crossing two hardy prairie species, the plant boasts an excellent pedigree as it was released to the trade by Dr. Jim Ault at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe, Illinois. Plant in compost enriched non-clay garden soils with a slightly acid to neutral pH. Plants reach maturity by the third year and live for many, many years. Enjoy it across much of the country; Baptisia doesn't flinch during hot, humid summers. I love to use it with other prairie grasses and wild flowers like Panicum 'Shanondoah' and Asclepias tuberosa (Orange Butterfly Weed). Zones 4-8.
