4" x 12" tall stems, (seed propogated). This giant stemmed claret cup is a very showy species with deep orange or scarlet flowers in late spring. Bearing classic spine clusters with three or four thorns at each areole, mature plants cluster with only 3 to 5 stems. A fascinating claret cup variation that grows huge 12" tall by 4" diameter stems. Found from eastern NM and southern CO, west through AZ into NV, UT and CA. Very heat tolerant. Blooming generally begins 3 to 4 years after the initial planting as the plant matures. Zones 5-10.
