4" x 6", (seed propagated). Guadalupe Co., NM. A small stemmed form from the foothills of east-central NM where it grows in stony soils. Shorter off-white spines than forms from central and western NM. Medium sized deep pink flowers in late spring. Though not a very showy form, this collection has excellent cold hardiness. Zones 5-10. *ECHINOCEREUS fendleri:* a wide ranging species from southern NM and AZ north into the Four Corners area of NM, AZ, CO, and UT. All varieties have huge violet-purple flowers and large red edible fruits. Stems are often solitary, but sometimes clustering to 3 or 4 stems. Easy to grow in well drained soils when keep dry in the winter and well mulched with gravel chips. Zones 5-10
