Details

6-7' tall x 3-4' wide (seed propagated). A very rare plant in cultivation, summer blooming Pink Texas Yucca is a pleasing companion plant for Russian Sage. The heat of early summer stimulates the growth of its tall, graceful hummingbird-attracting spikes of pink and white flowers. A Chihuahua desert native, it takes a few years for it to establish its deep roots and initiate flowering. However, the plant is long lived and will provide years of pleasure once established. Thanks to Greg Starr of Tucson for our seeds.

Comments about High Country Gardens Hesperaloe campanulatus:

We have it in a 30"H x 24" urn, full sun. The yucca plant is true to color, but in two years have not seen measurable growth. I know we are not in the best climate for the plant but our golden sword yucca thrive. Haven't seen flowers yet but we have hopes. We like to experiment. It seems quite healthy, just small.

Comments about High Country Gardens Hesperaloe campanulatus:

This plant arrived in good condition. I planted it in a cement urn with ground cover sedums. It grew well. It didn't bloom but I didn't expect that yet since it was small.

    Q & A

    USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

    • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
    • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
