Comments about High Country Gardens Helianthemum Ben Ledi:

I love "Sun Roses" and have grown many in the past. This didn't thrive and it did not flower. I've never had that happen before. None of my plants flowered, regardless of the variety.

Thought this would look well in a mixed Zeric garden, but it has gone to the Big Compost Pile in the Sky..

Comments about High Country Gardens Helianthemum Ben Ledi:

I've ordered a couple of different "Bens" -- the current offering, as well as an orange variety. In the challenging high altitude climate of Telluride, CO these plants perform beautifully. They take on xeriscape environments with aplomb, and here they actually do best in part-shade. Plants spread slowly but steadily, offering up profuse blooms. In my garden, they tend to have a few continuous blooms and two profuse blooming points --one in mid-June, the other in early September. So good I've ordered more for this year.

      Q & A

      USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

      • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
      • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
