Details

12" x 12" wide. A new color companion to the fabulous 'Arizona Sun' Gaillardia, 'Arizona Red Shades' brings gardeners a dwarf, well branched variety that thrives in dry heat. The gorgeous flowers with brick red petals and a darker burgundy cone keep coming all summer.

Once established, the plants perform best with only occasional deep watering. We recommend this variety as an outstanding, easy-to-grow choice for your hottest, sunniest garden spots.

With drought restrictions, I needed something hardy that didn't need a lot of water, but still looked pretty. These gaillardia were perfect near the patio and pool.

Comments about High Country Gardens Gaillardia grandiflora Arizona Red Shades:

Living in Northern Florida, we have an odd climate. Too hot for northen plants, but we freeze in the winter, so a number of plants cannot winter over. These were "okay" during the summer, but didn't make it through the winter.

            Q & A

            USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

            • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
            • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
