Details

8" tall x 12" wide (division propagated). An easy-to-grow ornamental grass with a pleasing tufted shape, outstanding when used to border flower beds and walks. An improved variety of the common Blue Fescue, "Sea Urchin" is much more compact and has a brighter steel blue foliage. Shear off the seed heads after it finishes blooming in late summer. Divide the clumps in spring every few years to renew its vigor and help it keep its best color and shape.

Comments about High Country Gardens Festuca glauca Sea Urchin:

I live in Northeastern Arizona in the High Desert Country Area in the White Mountains area. The soil here is clay soil. So, it was a bit hard to get this ornamental grass to grow at first. However, now that it's entrenched in the soil...this grass is growing beautifully. Gets plenty of sun, good nutrients, and water. And, on top of that...this plant has the beautiful colors of forest green and blue in it's blades. Just great to watch and look at!

Comments about High Country Gardens Festuca glauca Sea Urchin:

Have planted quite a few of these over the years. They pretty much take care of themselves and thrive in both hot spots and shadier areas.

        Q & A

        USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

        • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
        • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
