Cacti: The Illustrated Dictionary

Description:

by Rod Preston-Mafham and Ken Preston-Mafham

Collecting and growing cacti has long been a popular hobby. The smaller species, especially the “globular” cacti, have enjoyed the most avid following.

The book is divided into two sections. The first section features more than 1,100 color photos of cacti-many are shown in full bloom-accompanied by detailed descriptions denoting size, growth habit, area of distribution, and alternative names. For readers not fully versed in the naming of cactus species, there is a diagram to the text indicating, for example, whether a plant has central or radial spines, size of flowers, plant size, name of person who originally described the species, and more. The second section is a cross-referencing index that contains more of the names that have been in common use during the last 20 years. This section will prove very useful in resolving questions of identification.

Soft cover – 224 pages, 1109 color photos. ($5.00 S&H)
