Description:

Colorful, scented perennials for hot, dry spaces
Designed by Scott and Lauren Springer Ogden

This perennial garden designed by Scott and Lauren exclusively for High Country Gardens brings together the pleasures of scent and color into a single space. By using a combination of fragrant flowers and aromatic plants (that release their pleasing scents when touched or brushed) their design will grow to create a living potpourri. The plants of this garden are also wonderfully colorful with flowers in shades of raspberry-red, orange, yellow, blue and pink. And while the butterflies and hummingbirds will be visiting the ‘Xeric Aroma Garden,’ feeding deer and rabbits will be elsewhere. The strongly scented foliage and flowers are bitter and unpalatable to most browsers. Plant this garden in a sunny spot with well-drained garden soil of low to average fertility.

Included in the garden are:

  • 5 plants each of Thymus sp.
  • 4 plants each of Teucrium aroanium
  • 3 plants each of Lavandula angustifolia ‘Sharon Roberts’
  • 2 plants each Origanum libanoticum, Zizophora clinopodioides, Salvia off. ‘Minima’
  • 1 plant each of Agastache rupestris, Iris ‘Variegata,’ Santolina ‘Morning Mist’ and Salvia x ‘Raspberry Delight.’

The garden design includes a total of 22 plants and fits a rectangular area of 4 ft. x 9 ft. (approx. 45 sq. ft.). Suitable for planting in zones 5-8.
