Perennials For Hot, Narrow Spaces
Designed by Lauren Springer
Some years ago while living in eastern CO, Lauren was faced with the prospect of revitalizing or removing a narrow strip of half-dead Kentucky Blue grass along the street side of her property. She decided to take a more creative approach and planted that narrow strip of ground between the sidewalk and street with an assortment of tough, xeric, lower growing perennials. The concept of the Inferno Strip Garden was born. While not everyone has a street-side “Inferno strip”, this garden collection is also ideal for other hot, sunny, narrow problem areas like those found against garage walls, along drive ways or in raised brick planter beds.
The Inferno Strip Garden uses an assortment of, xeric (water-thrifty) perennials to create a colorful, long blooming, low maintenance flower bed. We recommend that it be mulched to a depth of 2” with crushed gravel. Included are 3 plants each of Veronica pectinata, Agastache neomexicana, Penstemon strictus, Aethionema schistosum, Salvia nemorosa ‘Cardonna’, Penstemon ‘Elfin Pink’, Dianthus ‘Firewitch’, 2 plants each of Callirhoe involucrata, Artemisia ‘Seafoam’, and 1 plant each of Centranthus and Nepeta ‘Walker’s Low’ for a total of 27 plants that will cover approximately 60 sq. ft.
This fits rectangular areas ranging in size from 12 ft. long x 5 ft. wide, to 20 ft. long x 3 ft. wide. Order additional gardens to plant longer areas.
A free planting/care guide instruction sheet is included showing how to arrange the plants. Suitable for use in zones 5-8.
(Note: Not all the plants shown in the photo are sold in this garden collection. However, the overall color scheme and look of the garden will be the same.)
Special Notes:
Save $10.00 off the single plant price!
We reserve the right to substitute a named plant of equal or greater value if we are sold out of a variety listed above.
