Yucca radiosa
High Plains Tree Yucca
Quick Facts
Legend
Description:
A tree Yucca from the high elevation grasslands surrounding the Davis Mountains in West Texas, this subspecies (listed by some botanists as Yucca elata ssp. radiosa) is a highly desirable xeriscape plant. A vigorous grower when transplanted from a container, Yucca radiosa eventually forms a stout trunk topped with lush, gray-green heads of stiff, flexible white-edged leaves with showy white filaments. As the plant reaches good size, it blooms with large showy spikes of ivory flowers. Deeply tap-rooted, this beauty is very drought tolerant once established, but will grow more consistently when given deep watering on an infrequent but regular schedule. Zones 5-9.
