Description:

This stunning little garden hybrid is actually a cross between two genera, Titanopsis x Aloinopsis spathulata. The flowers are truly spectacular! The flower color will vary a bit from plant to plant; you can expect an early spring display of showy salmon-orange to reddish-orange flowers (some with a lavender eye). The flowers are held just above a tight evergreen mat of blue-green foliage. The plant has a deep growing tap root. Plant it into a lean, fast-draining rock garden soil, preferably situated in a rock crevice, and mulch with crushed angular gravel (see mulch in photo). See below for special planting information. Be sure to plant it bare root. ‘Karoo Red’ is a wonderful companion for planting with Rabia or Nananthus. These mature 4 year old plants need a home!Zones 6-9.

GROWING TIPS

Be sure to plant it bare root. Let the soil in the pot dry out a bit before gently teasing off the soil and uncoiling or cutting off any kinked roots. Don’t water for two few days after planting to let the remaining roots callus-over any wounds.
