Tagetes lemmoni 'Compactum'
Compact Mt. Lemmon Marigold
Quick Facts
Legend
Description:
3’ x 3’ wide (cutting grown). This cultivar, a selected form of the perennial marigold native to the mountains of southern AZ, is coveted for its incredibly showy 1” diameter golden yellow flowers beginning in early fall. In warmer climates the flowers continue until winter. ‘Compactum’ is a shorter, earlier blooming Tagetes lemmoni selection with superior cold hardiness. With its highly aromatic foliage, the plant is completely unpalatable to rabbit and deer. Mulch heavily before winter and leave the stems standing for improved cold hardiness. For a superb early fall combination, plant ‘Compactum’ with Zauschneria arizonica or Salvia reptens. Zones 6-10.
