Sternbergia lutea
Lilies of the Field
Quick Facts
Legend
Description:
6-8” tall. Fall blooming. This heirloom yellow fall bloomer is actually a member of the Amaryllis family, but blooms at the same time as the fall blooming Crocus. A vigorous perennial wildflower, Sternbergia carpets the rocky hillsides of its Mediterranean habitat. In our gardens it thrives in hot spots with very well drained, alkaline soils and spreads to form large colonies when happy. Avoid heavy clay. Like Daffodils, Sternbergia is not eaten by gophers, or deer.
