Stanleya pinnata
Prince’s Plume
Quick Facts :: Growing Tips
Legend
Description:
3’ x 15” wide (seed propagated). Without a doubt, Prince’s Plume is one of our most spectacular western wildflowers. Native to very arid regions of the four corner states (NM, CO, UT, AZ), this plant is well suited to harsh growing conditions. Planted in a lean, well-drained, non-clay soil, Stanleya takes a couple of growing seasons to establish itself. But its tall eye-popping spikes of bright yellow flowers make it well worth the wait. Loves gravel mulch. Ideal companion plants include Penstemon palmeri, Claret Cup cactus and Ruschia ‘Calvinia Pink’.
Zones 4-10
