Quick Facts :: Growing Tips
Legend
Description:
18” x 15” wide (seed/cutting propagated) At last, we have discovered a water-thrifty selection of this southwestern native wildflower. ‘Hot Spot Coral’ will be a star in your xeriscape with its showy spikes of coral-red flowers. This is a very long-blooming perennial, easily grown in all but very sandy or wet clay soils. It thrives in both full sun and part shade locations where it can be planted with yellow Calylophus or lavender Nepeta. While highly attractive to hummingbirds, ‘Hot Spot Coral’ is not browsed by rabbits or deer. (See Stachys coccinea, our pleasing red-flowered collection from AZ that grows best in more moist, compost-enriched soils.) Zones 5 (with winter mulching)-9.
Special Notes:
Plant with Calylophus hartwegii v. lavandulaefolius, Achillea ‘Moonshine’, Nepeta X faassenii ‘Select Blue’, and Nepeta x ‘Walker’s Low’
