Sporobolus wrightii
Los Lunas Form of Giant Sacaton Grass
Quick Facts :: Growing Tips
Legend
Description:
8-10’ x 6’, (seed propagated). The Los Lunas form of Sporobolus wrightii is the Paul Bunyan of our native ornamental grasses, its giant size surpassing even Cortaderia (Pampas grass) in stature. Originally bred for use as a non-woody windbreak in western commercial vegetable fields, this selection is larger and has much showier flowering spikes than is exhibited in its unimproved native form. With its spectacular summer-blooming flower spikes, this giant form of Sporobolus can serve as a specimen plant to enjoy or may be planted in a row to create a living fence or windbreak.
