Penstemon 'Sweet Joanne'
Sweet Joanne hybrid Beardtongue
Quick Facts :: Growing Tips
Legend
Description:
24” x 24” wide. (Cutting propagated.) An extraordinary hybrid developed by Penstemon breeder, Dale Lindgren of the University of Nebraska. I saw the original test plot of this plant in his North Platte, NE growing fields. This is an extremely impressive Beardtongue that has excellent hybrid vigor, tall sturdy flower stalks each with up to 32 bright pink, purple streaked flowers and clean, glossy foliage. The plant will be long lived in the garden and is tolerant of heat and humidity making it growable across much of the country. ‘Sweet Joanne’blooms from late spring through summer. Named after Dale’s wife, Joanne, so you know it’s got to be great.
(From Blooms of Bressingham).
Zones 4-8.
Special Notes:
excellent resistance to foliar diseases common to Penstemon in hot, humid growing conditions.
