Penstemon tubaeflorus
White Great Plains Beardtongue
Quick Facts :: Growing Tips
Legend
Description:
30-36” x 15” wide (propagated from garden-grown seed). Green Thumb Award Winner 2003. Many thanks to the Dyck Arboretum of the Plains in Hesston, KS for the seeds of this fantastic Penstemon. A very rare species of the Great Plains, it is easily our showiest white-flowered Penstemon. Penstemon tubaeflorus blooms in early summer with long, showy flower spikes that push up from a low rosette of large leaves. Plant in well drained loam or loamy clay soils with other prairie species like Dalea, Calylophus and Linum lewisii ‘Appar’. Because it is native to areas of the Midwest with higher rainfall, Penstemon tubaeflorus is more moisture tolerant than many other Penstemon.
Zones 4-8
Special Notes:
Plant with Dalea, Calylophus and Linum for a spectacular show!
