Description:

Bernalillo Co., NM, (seed propagated). The classic fendleri form with huge violet-purple flowers and attractive white/black spination, this collection is a beauty. Forms small clusters of 4 to 5” tall stems. Zones 6-10. Collection #SB 134.

ECHINOCEREUS fendleri: a wide ranging species from southern NM and AZ north into the Four Corners area of NM, AZ, CO, and UT. All varieties have huge violet-purple flowers and large red edible fruits. Stems are often solitary, but sometimes clustering to 3 or 4 stems. Easy to grow in well drained soils when keep dry in the winter and well mulched with gravel chips.

Has a delicious large edible fruit.
