Dianthus gratianopolitanus ‘Firewitch’
Firewitch Garden Pink
Quick Facts :: Growing Tips
Legend
Description:
8” x 18” wide, (cutting propagated). 2005 Perennial Plant of the Year. ‘Firewitch’ is superb for both its gray-blue foliage and its bouquet of single hot-pink flowers. Blooming in late spring, I use ‘Firewitch’ to mix with plants that have gray or silver foliage. Marrubium rotundifolia, Achillea and various lavenders are good companion plants.
The non-green leaves of these companions help to cool down the intense flower color of ‘Firewitch’ and provide beautiful contrasting foliage when the flowers are gone. More xeric than many Dianthus, ‘Firewitch’ likes a lean, well drained soil with plenty of sunshine. Zones 3-9.
