Crinum bulbispermum
South African River Lily
Quick Facts
Legend
Description:
This beautiful heirloom South African bulb has naturalized in gardens across the South and Southwest. Now, our cold hardy white flowered strain extends its use into colder areas all across the country. Blooming in late spring the large white lilies are very showy.
River Lily grows in all types of compost enriched soils including heavy clay! While drought tolerant, it grows best with regular irrigation when rain is insufficient. Will bloom well in standing water; a great plant for rain harvest gardens. Plant 10-12” deep in zone 5-6 climates with southern/southwestern exposure. A fabulous companion for Kniphofia caulescens. Thanks to Lauren and Scott Ogden for seed collected from a very old naturalized colony in Austin., TX. Zones 5-10.
