Aquilegia chrysantha v. chaplinei 'Little Treasure'
Dwarf Golden Spur Columbine
Quick Facts :: Growing Tips
Legend
Description:
15” x 10” wide, (seed propagated).
The original seed for this rare native Columbine was collected in south-central New Mexico.’Little Treasure’ is the result of many years of my breeding work with this plant to create a floriferous, uniformly-small-growing plant. With numerous bright yellow, upward-facing flowers 1” wide with 1 1/2” long spurs, it blooms for many weeks, beginning in late spring. The plant has a very attractive mound of foliage resembling that of a maiden-hair fern. It thrives in compost-enriched soils and needs a semi-shade planting situation. Its diminutive size and colorful display of flowers makes it very usable throughout the garden.
Zones 5-9
Special Notes:
Plant with Veronica allioni, Digitalis purpurea v. mariana and Armeria maritima ‘Compacta’!

GROWING TIPS
|
These plants grow best in enriched soils that are well drained, avoid heavy, slow draining clay soils. Columbine likes evenly moist soil. Overhead irrigation in late afternoon and evening hours may encourage powdery mildew.
