Details

4" tall x 18" wide (cutting propagated). This low growing "yarrow" is at home in the rock garden or perennial border when used as a ground cover or edging plant. A reliably heavy bloomer, it covers itself with bright clusters of small white flowers for weeks in the late spring. Its' dense gray-green foliage is mat-like and ever (particularly in milder climates), giving the plant season-long interest. Recommended planting companions include Pink Armeria maritima 'Compactum' and Blue Penstemon virens.

Comments about High Country Gardens Achillea ageratifolia:

Planted as a border against rock beds surrounding a garden. Have planted over three years and even the earliest planted have not spread or grown hardly at all, and we have irrigated during the summer, thinking the plants needed to get established. I think the deer are eating it. The plants we put in last year under protection have done better. But these are supposed to be deer resistant! This is a pretty plant but it is just not performing the way I had anticipated. Oh - we are at 6200 feet.

Comments about High Country Gardens Achillea ageratifolia:

I really love this plant and would have given it a 5 star review, but it has not been rabbit resistant, like the specs say it is. The foliage is pretty and compact, and works great at a border plant. However, every time it tries to flower, the rabbits eat the buds off immediately. Now, I do have to say that we have hundreds of rabbits in my neighborhood. Maybe it would be rabbit resistant somewhere that isn't so over populated with the furry devils. The evil monsters even decimated a couple of my agastaches last year. =(

Comments about High Country Gardens Achillea ageratifolia:

I planted 8 of these, after about 5months, 6 survived. Very slow growing, very flat, only a 2" tall, unlike picture. I live in southerna california about 1/2 mile from coast. Not sure if salt air has something to do with it.
I originally saw this plant in Denver botanical gardens along with the Thymus Coccineum and it looked great.
        I'll give it another 6months.

            Q & A

            USDA Hardiness Planting Zones

To determine if a plant is sufficiently cold hardy, the USDA created numbered zones indicating winter low temperatures; the lower the zone number the colder the winter.

            • If the coldest winter temperature expected in your area is -15°F (zone 5) then any plants rated zones 3-5 will survive the winter temperatures in your area.
            • If you live in very warm winter areas (zones 9-11) plants with zones 3-4 ratings are not recommended. The lack of freezing winter temperatures do not provide a time for winter dormancy (rest).
